A groundbreaking ceremony was held on May 24, 2021 to celebrate the start of construction on Centura Health’s new St. Francis – Interquest Hospital.
The general contractor for the project is GE Johnson Construction Co. The event was attended by Peter D. Banko, Centura Health president and CEO; Brian Erling, MD, MBA, president and CEO of Penrose-St. Francis; and Colorado Springs Mayor John Suthers. Rev. Dr. Timothy Corbley, I. V. Dei, director of mission and ministry for Penrose-St. Francis Health Services, blessed the grounds of the new hospital.
“GE Johnson and Centura Health have built a relationship for more than 20 years – we are excited to continue our partnership with the construction of the St. Francis – Interquest Hospital in our hometown. This will contribute to the growth of Colorado Springs and help Centura Health extend their mission of healing and nurturing the health of our community members,” said Ron Doolittle, construction executive at GE Johnson.
The 140,000-square-foot hospital will be situated on 58 acres of land in northern Colorado Springs at the intersection of Interquest Parkway and I-25. The facility will house 72 beds to include 10 intensive care unit (ICU) beds, 10 specialty-sized operating rooms, a 14-bed emergency department, imaging with computed tomography (CT_, radiography, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and ultrasound. The hospital’s lobby will feature a coffee shop, a restaurant, and a chapel. Boulder Associates is the architect for the project. The hospital is planned for completion in spring 2023.
