The Big Picture
This greenfield hospital will be situated on 58 acres of land in northern Colorado Springs at the intersection of Interquest Parkway and I-25. The facility will house 72 beds to include 10 intensive care unit (ICU) beds, 10 specialty-sized operating rooms, a 14-bed emergency department, imaging with computed tomography, and ultrasound. The hospital’s lobby will feature a coffee shop, a restaurant, and a chapel. The hospital is planned for completion in spring 2023.
St. Francis – Interquest will accommodate orthopedic surgeries to free up capacity at other Penrose-St. Francis facilities, allowing those hospitals to serve the sickest and most injured in their ICUs. This is the first phase of development on the 58-acre site that is expected to grow over time and rival Centura’s 195-bed St. Francis Medical Center.
Ingenuity in Action
The building is a half-moon shape radius design, which will require prefabrication efforts. There will not be any straight hallways, so the project team is developing solutions to prefabricate mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) racks of this shape. The headwalls in each patient room will also be prefabricated to ensure quality and improve efficiencies.
Since the hospital is being constructed across the highway from the United States Air Force Academy, the project team is working in close coordination with the academy by proactively communicating to ensure height restrictions are met for cranes and schedules are approved.

- Rehabilitation sports fields will be added on top of the parking garage.
- The four-story tilt up structure will decrease construction time and project expense. Tilt-up, tilt-slab, or tilt-wall is a type of building and a construction technique using concrete.
