The Big Picture
The hotel at the United States Air Force Academy is a 375-room hotel with 26,000 square feet of meeting and banquet space. The hotel will feature a recreation center with two flight simulators to provide guests with a real-life pilot experience. Other amenities include fitness and spa facilities, a pool and event lawn, and six kitchen/food and beverage spaces throughout.
This design-build project will utilize prefabrication methods for several aspects throughout the building, including Redicor for stair and elevator cores, SurePods for guest bathrooms, Infinity Walls for guestroom tower structure, and GE Johnson’s Prefabrication Facility for the doors and hardware.
Ingenuity in Action
This will be the first project in Colorado Springs, Colorado to use Redicor, a modular steel form system. This factory built modular steel system is ready to set upon arrival, saving both time and money.
The little details
- Ranked second in Colorado Springs for number of rooms and square feet of meeting space.
- Building utilizes structural slab on void, slab on metal deck, post-tensioned slab, concrete column construction, and structural steel.
- Prior to construction, GE Johnson built two full-scale guestroom mock-ups, including one king-sized bedroom and one double queen bedroom, incorporating a prefabricated bathroom pod.
