Ribbon Cutting Held to Celebrate Completion of University of Wyoming’s Engineering Education and Research Building

Laramie, Wyo., September 17, 2019 – The University of Wyoming held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday to mark the grand opening of the new $105 million Engineering Education and Research Building (EERB). The 109,000-square-foot building is considered one of the most advanced engineering learning facilities in the nation.

An impressive addition to the University of Wyoming’s College of Engineering and Applied Sciences, the EERB is part of the school’s Tier-1 Engineering Initiative. The state-of-the-art facility is the most ambitious construction project in the 133-year history of the university, promoting engineering research and education and interdisciplinary collaboration, and supporting a wide range of subjects.

Designed by Malone Belton Associates, the four-story facility provides spaces for faculty research and student education, along with opportunities for public tours and hands-on learning. It also features several reconfigurable research laboratories and the Center for Design Thinking – a collaboration with the Department of Visual and Literary Arts.

The EERB extends GE Johnson Construction Company’s enduring partnership with the university. The Energy Innovation Center research laboratory and teaching facility, and the Mick and Susie McMurry High Altitude Performance Center are among the projects GE Johnson and University of Wyoming have successfully completed on the Laramie campus.

Friday’s groundbreaking was attended by former Wyoming Governor Dave Freudenthal; Tom Botts, co-chair of the Wyoming Governor’s Energy, Engineering, STEM Integration Task Force; and University of Wyoming Acting President Neil Theobald.
